TIP OF THE WEEK: MAKE YOUR OWN LAUNDRY SOAP!!

On WeUseCoupons, we have excellent forums for DIY Laundry detergent.  It’s not to complicated.  I saw this picture on Pinterest and thought, I really should try this.  This picture was pinned from Being Creative, and is has an excellent recipe for how to do this!!  Here are the ingredients you will need:
  1. - One 4 lb 12 oz box Borax (2.15 kg or 76 oz) found in the detergent isle
  2. - One 4 lb box Arm n Hammer Baking Soda (1.81 kg) found in the cooking isle
  3. - One box Arm n Hammer Super Washing Soda 55 oz (3 lb 7 oz) found in the detergent isle
  4. - Three bars of Fels-naptha soap, found in the detergent isle (or whatever you use)
  5. - Two small containers of Oxyclean or store brand Oxyclean (try to get about 3.5 lbs total (1.58 kg)) found in the detergent isle. (this is optional, I added it into mine because I have pretty messy kids and the cleaner the better)

For step-by-step instructions head over to her post here.  Remember to check out our House and Home and Tightwad Tips forums for even more money saving ideas!!

Thank you to one of my readers for this great tip.  Heather S. She has tried this and it is great.  It makes a lot!!

HOW TO SHOP WITHOUT COUPONS and still save money!!

"I would love to use coupons, but I don't have the time or a printer.  Besides I an not an organized person and I have no idea how to get started."

Many of us can relate to this.  I know the TIME factor falls into play for me.  But you may wonder, "Can you shop without using coupons?"

Yes!!  Here are a few tips I have found:
  • Write everything down on paper that you buy in a week. Be sure to write down the amount, brand name of an items you buy.  (do not skip this step. This will give you the direction you need to go)
  • Inventory your pantry.  Make a inventory. (If you have a good memory, just take note of it)  Be sure to rotate food items to save on money so you don't have items that will get outdated and then you have to throw it away. I have a magnet board on my fridge and I right down the items I am going to need within a month or so, so I can incorrporate it into my budget.  It keeps me from buying unnecessary items at a large cost.
  • Price Match-There are many stores that will pricematch.  Walmart, Target, Toysaurus and Staples all do pricematches here in OKC.
  • Shop at discounted stores like Big Lots (olive oil is the cheapest there)  Aldi's (great prices and the brands are excellent) or Dollar store (we get our Syrup, Marshmellows and Cocoa there)
  • Buying in Bulk is not always necessary the best deals you can get. (We love to pick up waffles or meat at Sam's) So be sure to compare prices. Buying items in bulk can be wasteful and instead of saving, you can be losing money.
There you have it.  You can do it!  At first it will take a little time, but I guarantee you, it is worth it!!!!

Happy Savings!!

TIP OF THE WEEK: RECYCLING AT TARGET!!!

I came upon the coolest thing at Target the other day.  You can recycle items at their store!!  I am very excited since we do not have a way to recycle in our neighborhood.  It looks like you can bring in your bags  plastic, aluminum and glass.

So Mr. Arama and I bought a tub for our kitchen and have been recycling!!  I am so happy and now I can feel like I am helping out a little with the planet.

If you like to learn more about recycling you can checkout this site Recycle Bank. When you sign up at Recycle Bank you can earn points and get gift cards.  Most importantly you learn so much by on how to save on energy and all about recycling!!

Cheapest TP in town!

REprinted by reader request:

...The other place was an interesting store.

It's a discount/resale/thrift store connected to Clark's Wholesale Paints. Outside, it has an old Rexal Drug sign. Besides knit caps and winter gloves for $2.00, they had new tools at huge discounts, used furniture, Route 66 memorabilia, and very good prices on latex paint. Lots of other thing, too. Used, new, resale...

One amazing deal we saw there: toilet paper $0.25 per roll, any quantity. A variety of brands. Some of it is in packages, some of it loose. It's all good condition, no water damage or anything like that. Brand new and ultra cheap!

Check them out!
