Saving On Big Ticket Items

We tend to post a lot of camera deals here. That's because one of our primary businesses is photography. And photographic equipment is expensive. So, we are constantly looking (for us and you) for deals, bargains, and savings on items that may originally cost anywhere from just under $100 to well over $1000. This taught us to look for extra savings on any large dollar purchase.

Savings is savings. If you are about to spend the big bucks anyways, might as well look for maximizing your dollars spent.

We will be moving into the other trailor on this property in about a month. (Our arrangements had to change because of the deteriorating health of the older couple we have been living with. A family member is now moving in with them. It's pluses all around the way it's working out. We are all very pleased.) We had been using  borrowed TVs for a while now, but we don't want to keep borrowing, so we bought a replacement of our own.

Here's how we bought a TV and saved money while getting extra rewards:

This TV is already a good deal at $249.99 at Walmart. Notice it's not a 1080P HD. We don't need that with our watching habits and our cable deal, so why pay extra. That's the first thing to consider with big ticket items, What do I really need/want?

Waiting til after the holidays, we saw this model get reduced in price to $189.99. That's another thing to consider, is the price likely to go down any time soon?

Then, we went thru a Swagbucks link to get rewards for shopping at Walmart. We received enough rewards points to get a $10 Amazon.com gift card. So, look for bonus rewards where ever you are shopping.

We decided on upgrading the warranty from 1 yr to 5 yrs since Walmart isn't likely to go out of business anytime soon. Five years of worry free ownership is worth the small extra cost. Do your research, some deals are fantastic, some are close to worthless.

We chose site-to-site for the shipping. In other words, from Walmart's warehouses, it goes to your local store, which for us is only two miles away. It's a free shipping option from Walmart. Look around on the website of where ever you are purchasing your big ticket item. You might find a similar option.

Our total out of pocket payout, plus tax and minus the Amazon money was $219.00. It's brand new, warrantied, delivered. All for less than the original pre-taxed asking price in store.

THAT'S how you can save serious money on big ticket items. Takes a little effort, but aren't the savings involved worth a little time and effort? That's what this blog is all about.

Enjoy!

Thumper Bun Buns is very pleased.
