Haircuts have gone up in price quite a bit lately. Except for grand opening specials, I haven't seen a price south of about $15.oo in several years. I'm referring to places like SuperCuts, Great Clips, etc... not a high end salon.
Interestingly, $15 (to $25 or so) is about how much you can buy a decent hair trimmer for at places like Target or Walgreens. I'm not talking professional quality or features here, mind you, just an inexpensive tool for a small family or one person. I just got a Remington unit at Target for $14.99, came home and cut my hair. Mrs. Arama says it looks nice!
This is not for everyone. Some people need a pro to do their hair. Either because of a special style or maybe a difficult head of hair. Also, if you have a large family, you might not make it thru a year with a cheap trimmer. Even at that, if you can teach yourself how to use them, you can buy pro quality tools and still save money in the long run.
Even by yourself, you can use these trimmers if you have a simple style and shortish hair. (It helps to be ambidextrous. What? You aren't? How do you survive? :-D )
Stylists, Mrs. Arama still needs you. But, I'm saying goodbye to the chain haircut stores for my simple man style. With the money I'll save, I can finally get the new car I've been looking at.
